Kea Newman
Austin-based Yoga Teacher
I am a central TX native and have lived in Austin since 2005 (with a short stint in Southern California). My yoga practice began over 15 years ago, at the same time that I started my first full time corporate job. I began taking regular classes after work to de-stress and transition from work to home life. Since then, my practice has been a constant in my life to keep me balanced and grounded. I love learning and have hundreds of hours (and counting) of education in yoga asana, pranayama, anatomy, philosophy, and teaching skills.
My style of teaching is alignment based and informed by modern movement science. I focus more on physical and energetic actions within poses rather than aesthetics, knowing that every body is unique. My aim is to help students develop healthy movement patterns and a sustainable practice. I provide clear and precise instruction and foster inquiry and exploration as a path to deeper self awareness. My teaching often includes the use of props to enhance and support my students’ individual practice. I have a passion for helping people live healthier lives and feel better in their bodies and am excited to share the many benefits of yoga with my students.
Aside from teaching yoga, I have a 16 year career as a senior human resources leader. I help companies improve their organizational and leadership effectiveness, manage change, and build high-performance cultures. I have witnessed, and personally experienced, how the tools of yoga can help leaders be more effective at personal energy management and reducing burnout so that they and their teams can realize their full potential.
I live in north central Austin with my husband Matt and fur baby Jordie. In our free time, we love to travel internationally and experience different places and cultures!
